Las Cruces City Council Meeting – December 3, 2007 – Nancy Phillips, Observer

After a presentation by the County Health Department on its diabetes program there were a few comments from the public which included various issues such as requiring voters to present identification and a proposed special license plate for Las Cruces residents to generate revenue for the City.  The special plate would be optional and a design has recently been submitted.

Comments from the Mayor and each Council member included information about the Mayor's individual District meetings with each Councilor to take place in the next two weeks, and road repairs needed within the City.  The Council also addressed the issue of redistricting because some districts are much larger than others.  Mr. Moore said a consulting firm will be hired to suggest a plan for redistricting, hopefully avoiding overlapping.

All routine ordinances and resolutions were passed unanimously, some with amendments.  Several proposed ordinances were reviewed to prepare new council members for voting when they appear on the agenda at a future meeting.  All were brought forward.

The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.

A special meeting ensued regarding the mail-in ballot for the proposed tax increment development district. The council approved a resolution to create an absentee voter board precinct for this special election only.  The City will have only one vote as a landowner in the designated area, to be cast by Mr. Moore as representative.
