City Council Meeting - June 25, 2007 – Marnie Leverett

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro-Tem, Dolores Connor, as the Mayor is out of the country. Councilor Gil Jones participated via telephone. All other Councilors were present. For some reason the entire agenda was done according to Battersill protocols, usually used only during appeals. This meant that all speakers had to be sworn in and were instructed to answer all questions from the person in charge.

The first three items on the agenda all had to do with a proposed subdivision off Stern Road called Heather Hills. There was a very long discussion with a great deal of comment from the audience. Councilor Miyagishima said that he would not support those three items unless all the lots would be 1/2 acre lots. That proposal failed and all three proposals passed with only Councilor Miyagishima voting no. The next items on the agenda had to do with the so-called Kennon Annexation, on the west mesa. After a lengthy presentation and some discussion of possible amendments, the items were passed as presented.

This City Council meeting was entirely devoted to land use issues. Other items on the agenda were approved as presented and were fairly routine but it was a very long afternoon.
