LAS CRUCES CITY COUNCIL

MAY 22, 2006

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor Pro Tem, Dolores Connor. The Mayor and Councilor Archuleta were in Washington, D.C., regarding after-school program funding. Though this City Council meeting is devoted to land use planning (fourth meeting of the month), the first item on the agenda was approval of the municipal budget for fiscal year 2006-2007.  Many people in the audience spoke to this, though there had been public hearings prior to this vote. Their comments were primarily concerned with the increase in size of the budget in the last few years. The budget was approved unanimously.

Next was a resolution prioritizing the top five projects for which state legislative funding would be sought in the 2007 session. The official lobbyist for the city had suggested that the Council do this prioritizing early for a more effective lobbying plan   However, Councilors were not of a single mind on this matter and in the end the resolution was tabled for further discussion in work sessions.

Then the Council got down to business on zoning issues Most of the ones presented were for small parcels of land and were approved unanimously.
