Summary of 2006 Activities
Governor Richardson was the guest speaker at the SNMCC Annual meeting April 20, 2006.
SNMCC commended the City, County and the LCPS Board on their improved adherence to the Open Meetings Act while being critical of the NMSU Regents.
County Commissioner Bill McCamley spoke to the SNMCC Board on the following issues: the Sale of BLM land; Healthcare (MMC, MountainView & Healthcare Givers); and the Political Will of the politicians of the area.
NMNSU Regents said that They were doing things right all along.
A DAC Budget Study Group was established by SNMCC. The group concentrated on such issues as rapid population growth, demand for public services, land use policy and long-range planning.
D Kent Evans, a County Commissioner, spoke to the SNMCC Board about Public Financing of his Primary Election Campaign for the (PRC) Public Regulation Commission. His statements were supported by Don Kurtz who had worked on E Shirley Bacas Campaign for a different slot on the Public Regulation Commission. A letter was sent to our representative, Matt Brix, on the State Ethics Task Force. The letter contained a summary of the Public Financing issue from the speakers and SNMCC view.
SNMCC Board Chairman, Lynn Ellins, is the Elections Supervisor. He was commended for the way his people handled the last election (2006 Primary Election).
